I just returned from an unforgettable stay at the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa, and wow—what a hidden gem!
To think that such pure luxury is just a short 4.5-hour drive from our home is amazing in itself. But, even more conveniently, it’s only a quick 40-minute train ride from Paris, making it an ideal addition to any trip.
The hotel has a rich history too. Centuries ago, it was a popular lunch spot for Napoleon himself!
Suites, Indoor Pool, and Dining
The 47-all-suites hotel itself is incredible. It has three types of Junior Suites, each with views of the gardens and the stunning Épernay valley.
After we checked in, we made our way to the outdoor terrace, which was buzzing with French locals enjoying lunch and the last bit of October sunshine. It was the perfect welcome to this beautiful place.
We made good use of the 25-meter indoor pool, which also had incredible views of the valley. There’s a smaller outdoor pool too, perfect for warmer days.
For dining, you have two fantastic options right at the hotel: the Michelin-starred Le Royal and Le Bellevue. Both are excellent and definitely add to the whole experience. And for the service? it was truly top-notch.
All in all, Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa is a total treat. With luxurious rooms, amazing food, and rich history, it’s the perfect spot for a memorable Champagne getaway!
Champagne Houses
We didn’t have a ton of time, so we only managed to book one tour, at the Maison Pommery estate in Reims, just a 20-minute drive from the hotel.
The Maison Pommery Estate spans an impressive 55 hectares, and in addition, it boasts an extensive network of underground galleries stretching over 18 kilometers.
To truly grasp the enormity of this space, consider this: 55 hectares is roughly equivalent to the combined area of the Louvre, the Tuileries Garden, and the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
With so much to see, every minute spent exploring this estate was absolutely worth it. The history of Madame Pommery’s champagne domain is not only rich but also incredibly fascinating!
Our journey took us down a staircase of 116 steps, ultimately leading us 30 meters (almost 100 feet) below ground, where we reached the estate’s legendary cellars. And there, an extraordinary world awaited us.
