I’ve had the pleasure of visiting this enchanting city twice in the last year, and each time has deepened my love for its vibrant charm. Whether traveling with my husband or my youngest teenage daughter, Venice has proven to be a destination that promises to dazzle every member of the family.
Best of Both Worlds: Resort & City
What makes Venice truly unique for luxury travelers is not just its breathtaking landmarks, but the exquisite hotels that offer a perfect blend of relaxation and opulence.
During my stays, I discovered a wonderful strategy for making the most of this historic city—combining the best of both worlds by spending time both in the heart of Venice and on a serene resort island in the Lagoon.
My personal recommendation? Split your stay between two distinct settings. Start with two nights at one of the elegant gems in the city center, like The St. Regis Venice or the Aman, where you can immerse yourself in the energy of Venice.
Follow that with two or three nights at the Cipriani or JW Marriott Resort & Spa, nestled on its own peaceful island oasis.
This allows you to explore the vibrant culture of Venice, and then retreat to the tranquility of the Lagoon for a more relaxing experience. Think spa treatments and swimming pools!
Playground for Families
Each trip brings new memories, and our most recent adventure, late September 2024, was no exception.
This time, I traveled with my youngest daughter, who was 18 at the time. Venice isn’t just for couples or history buffs—it’s a playground for families who love luxury and authentic experiences.
From the moment we arrived, Venice’s lively energy captivated us. We sipped on refreshing Venetian spritzes, soaking in the local flavors while watching the gondolas glide past.
After Dark Ghost Tour
One of our favorite experiences was the Ghost Tour. A thrilling journey through the city’s darker, mysterious past that left us spellbound. It was the perfect mix of history and intrigue, ideal for teens and adults alike.
Classic Gondola Ride
Of course, no trip to Venice is complete without a classic gondola ride. There’s something magical about floating through the labyrinth of canals, each turn revealing a new hidden gem or historic building. My daughter loved it, and it’s a moment we’ll treasure forever.
Book Lovers
For book lovers, Venice offers a charming surprise. We spent time at Libreria Acqua Alta. A one-of-a-kind bookstore (with cats) where books are piled in gondolas and bathtubs to protect them from Venice’s frequent flooding. It’s quirky, fascinating, and an absolute must-visit for families seeking something off the beaten path.
Staircase: Scala Contarini del Bovolo
Another highlight was climbing the recently renovated Scala Contarini del Bovolo. This spiral staircase in a 15th-centry palace offers breathtaking views over Venice. It’s also an excellent way to connect with the city’s architectural splendor.
As we ascended, I could feel the history beneath our feet, making the experience all the more enchanting.
