The Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay, a former Cistercian abbey located near Paris, was founded in 1118 and later restored by the Rothschild family. Today, the estate shines as a luxury hotel under the direction of Paris Society.
My recent stay here (end October 2024) was nothing short of enchanting, and it truly felt like stepping into a dream where old-world charm meets contemporary comfort.
As we drove up the tree-lined path to the abbey, the scent of wood burning in cozy fireplaces greeted me, instantly evoking the warmth and coziness of the holiday season. Even before stepping inside, the atmosphere felt like a fairy tale come to life.
The Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay is much more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience that transports you back to the grandeur of the Rothschild family’s legacy.
With its sprawling grounds, magnificent architecture, and breathtaking views of the surrounding forest, it’s easy to imagine the lavish gatherings and soirées that once took place here.
Designed by designer and creative director of Dior Maison and Baby Dior
A particularly noteworthy aspect of the restoration is the stunning interior design, led by none other than Cordélia de Castellane, designer and creative director of Dior Maison and Baby Dior.
Culinary Highlights
One of the highlights of my stay was dining at Les Chasses, the renowned restaurant on the estate.
We even visited twice, and both times, we were fortunate to have the perfect spot right by the fireplace.
The ambiance was nothing short of magical, with candlelit tables set against the backdrop of grand stone walls. The menu, inspired by classic French cuisine, was a culinary delight.
Les Chasses has been featured in Emily in Paris, with Camille and Gabriel’s romantic scenes shot here. For fans of the show, it felt like stepping into the very heart of a glamorous Parisian dream, but with the serenity of the countryside surrounding us.
Activities
The experience at the Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay was not just about luxurious surroundings and gourmet meals; it was about truly embracing the lifestyle of the Rothschilds.
The estate offers an array of activities, from leisurely walks through the grounds to exploring the history of the abbey itself. The sense of peace and tranquility here is unmatched, allowing you to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and indulge in the simple pleasures of nature and history.
We had the pleasure of enjoying a cinema experience with complimentary popcorn, and we also went horseback riding and explored the lake by pedal boat.
Service Level
The staff at the abbey were exceptionally attentive, ensuring that every need was met with a smile. From the moment I arrived, I felt like a guest of honor, with every detail taken care of—whether it was a warm welcome at check-in or a thoughtful recommendation for the best local wines.
For anyone seeking a truly unique and indulgent getaway, I cannot recommend the Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay enough. It’s a place where history, luxury, and unforgettable memories come together in perfect harmony.
